Man charged with manslaughter in connection with fatal fentanyl overdose in Mobile
A suspect was arrested Tuesday on manslaughter charges after police said he provided a substance containing fentanyl to a man who fatally overdosed in Mobile.
Mobile officers responded Sunday to Alba and Bascombe streets on a call of a medical emergency, said police spokesman Blake Brown.
Mobile Fire Rescue was already on the scene with a male victim who apparently overdose.
The man, identified as 25-year-old Derrick Kyles, Jr., was taken to a local hospital where he died, said Brown.
During the investigation, officers identified a suspect, 26-year-old Javonte Johnson, who allegedly gave Brown a substance that contained fentanyl.
Johnson was arrested Tuesday and taken to Mobile County Metro Jail on a charge of manslaughter.
