Country star gets sick on sold-out tour, asks fans for prayers: ‘Of course this would happen’
Carly Pearce is asking fans for prayers after she got hit with a severe case of flu on her “Hummingbird” world tour.
The country-pop star, 34, posted a Monday photo on Instagram that shows her waving some tissues and flashing a peace sign in bed.
“Yall, the last few days I have been battling feeling sick but yesterday the flu hit me right in the face,“ Pearce said in her Instagram post. ”God has a funny sense of humor sometimes … these shows are some of the biggest sold out shows of my career & of course this would happen, right?! BUT!!! With the help of my doctor & team, we WILL finish out this tour strong and I will give you EVERYTHING I have. Manchester, Belfast, Glasgow & Dublin- if the shows look a little different, know that I promise to show up each night giving you my all. I love y’all so much & DONT GET THIS FLU. Last week in Europe let’s do this!!! Prayers appreciated.”
Pearce, known for hits such as “Every Little Thing,” “I Hope You’re Happy Now” and “Never Wanted to Be That Girl,” has three shows in Europe on her agenda over the next few days before she heads back to the United States to continue her tour.
The Grammy-winning singer has talked about her health problems in the past, and revealed in May 2024 that she was diagnosed with a heart condition known as pericarditis. It causes inflammation of tissues that surround the heart, according to the American Heart Association.
“I had a really debilitating chest pain that was only relieved if I bent over like this (leaning forward), and that’s a classic symptom of pericarditis,” Pearce said during a January interview on the “Today” show. “And then when you lay back, it gets way worse, because that wall is kind of inflamed around your heart.”
Pearce told “Today” she’s been dealing with heart problems for nearly five years and has a chronic condition. By revealing her heart issues, Peace said, she hopes to raise awareness of the condition and encourage women to take better care of their heath.
“I’m doing better. I’m healthy, I’m trying to find my new normal,” Pearce said. “I have what’s called recurrent pericarditis. I’ve had several flares since 2020.”
Fans have rallied around Pearce during this new health setback, posting messages of encouragement on Instagram as she battles the flu.
“You can’t keep this WOMAN DOWN!!!” said @amyisabellascott. “See you tomorrow gal – get some vapour rub on the soles of your feet with bed socks tonight – old wives tale but I swear by it!!”
“Really hope you feel better soon!! Sending you so much love!! ” said @madeleinesims22.
“We saw you in Bristol on 21st – you were amazing! Keep going, you’ve got this, girl,” said @carly_beanie.
If her Instagram post is any indication, Pearce appears determined to soldier on as she tours to promote a 2024 album, “Hummingbird.” It features two of her latest singles, “Truck on Fire” and “We Don’t Fight Anymore” featuring Chris Stapleton.
