This soda debuted in 1986. Now Coca-Cola is bringing it back
The 1980s were a golden age of soda. Coca-Cola introduced Cherry Coke, the fruity twist on its classic cola in 1985 and it skyrocketed to popularity. A year later, the brand introduced its low-calorie version, Diet Cherry Coke.
Diet Cherry Coke quietly disappeared from shelves a few years ago, but it seems like the fan-favorite may be making a comeback.
Soda Seekers, the popular Instagram account that tracks news about fizzy flavors, has reported Cherry Coke is returning to shelves.
“This is the first limited edition re-release for Diet Cherry Coke since it was discontinued by @cocacola in late 2020,” wrote a Jan. 31 post on the Soda Seekers account. “While we are unable to share a photo of this release at this time, we can confirm the can and bottle design are nearly identical to the late-80’s design seen here.”
The Street reports Diet Cherry Coke will hit grocery store shelves in late July.
