- What is Wicked?
Wicked is a film adaptation of one of the most beloved musicals performed on stages throughout the country. The Wizard of Oz prequel is directed by Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) and was released in theaters late November 2024.
Wicked tells the tale of Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West and their first encounter. The unlikely pair meet while attending Shiz University in the Land of Oz and, against all odds, develop a friendship. After traveling to meet the wizard, their friendship is tested, and they find themselves on different paths.
What will Wicked: For Good be about?
The second part of the film adaptation will lead into Dorothy’s adventure, but through the lens of Elphaba who is now on the rocks with the citizens of Oz. Throughout the second part, viewers can expect to see Elphaba become even more misunderstood by the citizens of Oz.
The movie will also follow Elphaba’s continued fight for animal rights and include a dizzying reunion between the two witches. Though Chu intends to keep the basic plot of the Broadway musical at the center of Wicked: For Good, viewers can expect new takes on the classic and perhaps even new musical numbers.
Wicked: For Good is set to release in theaters Nov. 21, 2025.
