Alabama high schools’ top 10 NFL passers: A 58,684-yard spread

As a rookie with the Denver Broncos, former Pinson Valley quarterback Bo Nix had the sixth-most passing yards in the NFL as he completed 376-of-567 passes for 3,775 yards with 29 touchdowns and 12 interceptions during the 2024 regular season.

That didn’t jump Nix into the top 10 for NFL career passing yards among players from Alabama high schools, but he’ll start the 2025 campaign fewer than 1,000 behind No. 10 Scott Hunter.

Two of the other three Alabama high school players who threw NFL passes in 2024 are among the top 10.

Jameis Winston of Hueytown started seven games for the Cleveland Browns after Deshaun Watson sustained a season-ending injury. Completing 181-of-296 passes for 2,121 yards with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, Winston is 593 yards from No. 3 Bart Starr on the state list.

Nick Mullens of Spain Park threw only two passes as Sam Darnold’s backup with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024. Both were completed for a total of 38 yards as he remained at No. 9.

The other passer with Alabama prep roots in 2024 was Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney from Gadsden City, whose trick pass went incomplete.
