Alabama basketball star removed from injury report before Kentucky game
Fear not, Alabama basketball fans, Mark Sears is playing. The Crimson Tide’s point guard, who appeared on Friday’s SEC availability report as probable for UA’s matchup with Kentucky, was not mentioned on Saturday’s final report.
Sears also appeared warming up on the court ahead of the game. He did look encumbered by any injury.
The Muscle Shoals native scored 30 points last time out against Missouri. Even in the loss, Alabama head coach Nate Oats praised the performance.
“That might have been Mark’s best game,” Oats said Friday. “Obviously he scored it well, but he scored it very efficiently. He only took three more shots than he did against Auburn, scored double the amount of points. And I thought his effort on defense was as good as it’s been all year.
“So I think Mark’s legs are under him. Mark’s done a really good job making sure he’s ready to go.”
Alabama is already down one of its star players. Derrion Reid will miss his second game in a row, after briefly returning to action against Auburn.
Reid has been dealing with a lingering hamstring issue. Oats has said the Crimson Tide will not push him back into games.
“I think he’s going to be a pro,” Oats said before Reid missed the Missouri game. “He came in a McDonald’s all-American, he’s got all the intangibles, as far as tough, great attitude, high IQ, he’s athletic, a lot of the stuff that pros are looking for. We really don’t want to hurt his long-term career by rushing something to win a game or two.”
Alabama and Kentucky are scheduled to tip off at 5 p.m. CT at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa. The game will be aired on ESPN.
