22-year-old charged with capital murder during deadly Center Point burglary
A 22-year-old has been charged with capital murder in the fatal shooting of a man during a burglary at the victim’s home.
Jarius Deshun McNeil, of Center Point, is charged in the killing of 56-year-old Harold Crumel.
McNeil was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 9:10 p.m. Thursday and remains held without bond.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 5:16 p.m. Thursday to the 1500 block of Charter East Circle to investigate a report of a burglary in progress and a person shot.
Sheriff’s spokesman Henry Irby said they arrived to find Crumel wounded.
Center Point Fire and Rescue transported the Crume to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:50 p.m.
Crumel is the 25th homicide victim countywide so far in 2025.
