Alabama mother charged in newborn’s death after allegedly admitting fentanyl use

An Alabama mother is facing criminal charges after her newborn died the day after she admitted to using fentanyl, according to police and court records.

Whitney Nicole Greene, 32, of Oxford, was charged with chemical endangerment of a child-death on Tuesday, court documents showed.

Greene allegedly used fentanyl on Sunday, according to court records.

On Monday, her newborn son died, records showed.

Greene was admitted to Regional Medical Center for a labor induction appointment when she allegedly told hospital staff that she had taken fentanyl, Anniston Police Chief Nick Bowles told WBRC.

Hospital staff then performed an unplanned C-section, which the newborn did not survive, the outlet reported.

Efforts by AL.com to reach Anniston police were unsuccessful.

An attorney for Greene was not listed in state court records.
