‘Loudly incoherent’ man arrested with gun at Alabama high school baseball field house, police say
A man was arrested after a tense situation Saturday where he brought a gun on school grounds in south Alabama, police said.
According to the Robertsdale Police Department, 48-year-old Michael Brown was arrested at the Robertsdale High School baseball field house.
Brown was charged with resisting arrest, harassment, disorderly conduct and possession of a deadly weapon on school grounds.
Robertsdale Police Lt. Paul Overstreet said that officers received multiple calls of an individual with a gun at the field house.
Officers arrived to several people including students hiding behind cars shielding themselves. Many students and their families were at the school building because a baseball tournament had just concluded.
That is when officers entered the facility to find an irate Brown being hostile toward a coach and being, “loudly incoherent.”
Overstreet said the coach was attempting to calm down Brown and get him to leave but Brown would not leave.
After Brown was not responsive to police commands Overstreet said officers proceeded to detain him.
“After a brief struggle he was detained in handcuffs and a pistol was confiscated from his waistband,” Overstreet said.
Overstreet said the department’s investigation has determined Brown’s motivation for coming to the school facility was over a “personal family matter.”
The incident is still being investigated as the department seeks to talk to more witnesses.
