Auburn men’s basketball ranks No. 1 in coaches, AP poll after beating Alabama
Auburn beat Alabama in the Southeastern Conference’s first ever No. 1 versus No. 2 men’s basketball game Saturday, re-claiming the No. 1 ranking in the coaches poll and holding onto the top spot in the AP poll.
The Tigers ranked No. 1 in both the AP and coaches polls Monday, after splitting the polls with Alabama last week. Auburn was No. 1 in last week’s AP poll, but came second in the coaches poll, despite getting more first-place votes than the Crimson Tide.
Not only was Auburn ranked first in both polls this week, only one voter between both polls didn’t rank Auburn No. 1. Alabama dropped to fourth in both polls.
The SEC continues to dominant the rankings, placing five teams in the top 10 of the AP top 25 and nine overall. Auburn now has wins over nine currently ranked teams, including four in the top 10.
The Tigers’ next two games come against unranked teams at home, facing Arkansas Wednesday and Georgia Saturday. Wednesday’s matchup with the Razorbacks is set to tip off at 8 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN.
