Did Tom Hanks’ racist Trump supporter offend you?

Tom Hanks’ stint Sunday on Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary show drew a social media reaction when he returned as the MAGA-supporting racist named Doug.

In the skit, Hanks – as Doug – is a contestant on “Black Jeopardy,” which hosted by show-regular Kenan Thompson.

Hanks wore a red “Make America Great Again” hat in addition to a flannel shirt and T-shirt. Despite not being part of the game show’s demographic.

The skit debuted in 2016, so the performance isn’t new, even if the reaction might be.

Doug hesitates before shaking the host’s hand.

“Don’t like that, whoa, whoa, whoa,” he said during the skit.

Later he says, “Maybe I’ll start a show for you to come on and we’ll call it ‘White Jeopardy.’”

While it divided many on social media, Mediate has an interesting take on the sketch, suggesting it didn’t land for a different reason.

“Well, the whole point of the first sketch (in 2016) was that the MAGA voter and the Black contestants were revealed to have way more in common than the differences that political media focused on at the time—and still focuses on today. The sketch’s subtext is strangely unifying, and I encourage you to watch it in full.”

The stumbling point, per Mediate, was the skit didn’t establish Sunday – as it was back in 2016 – just how much alike the MAGA voter and the black contestants were.

Social media was quick to react:
