Birmingham worker who died at City Hall remembered as devoted husband, father, co-worker

A city employee who died at Birmingham City Hall was a stormwater specialist who is remembered by friends as a devoted husband, father and co-worker.
Troy Joseph Perry Jr., 67, died Thursday. He lived in Birmingham.
Perry was found unresponsive at 11 a.m. in the stairwell between the 10th and 11th floors.
Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Perry was pronounced dead at 11:10 a.m. No foul play is suspected in his death.
Perry worked in the Watershed Division in the Department of Planning, Engineering and Permits for eight years. He previously worked for the Jefferson County Health Department for 30 years.
Mayor Randall Woodfin released this statement on his social media:
“On behalf of the City of Birmingham family we want to offer our sincerest condolences to the loved ones of Mr. Troy Perry. Mr. Perry served the City as a Stormwater Specialist in the Watershed Division of Planning, Engineering and Permits for eights years.
We send love to his beloved wife Mary. She shared Troy was her rock and best friend. Mr. Perry will be remembered for being an amazing husband and father, for his unwavering kindness, willingness to help others and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life.”
