Two Mobile men charged with murder in connection to Wiley Street homicide

Two individuals have been arrested in connection to a Feb. 7 homicide on Wiley Street, according to the Mobile Police Department.

Reco McCants, 25, and Cedric Wooten, 22, were arrested and charged with murder for the death of Tykendrick Barnett.

Officers found Barnett dead in an empty parking lot with a gunshot injury last Friday.

The department stated no further information was available as Barnett’s death continues being investigated.

During Mardi Gras in 2019, Barnett, 17 years old at the time, allegedly opened fire along with another gunman at a McDonald’s on Government Street after a Mardi Gras parade.

The shooting resulted in a 7-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy being struck but neither sustained life-threatening injuries.

Barnett was arrested and charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, illegal possession of a firearm and discharging a weapon into an unoccupied vehicle.

Barnett would plead guilty to three counts and was later released from jail in 2022 after time served over two years.
