Hyundai opens $14 million employee care center in Montgomery
Montgomery’s Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama Wednesday opened a $14 million Care Center for the auto factory’s 4,000 employees.
The center, located at a new central site on the southwest corner of the campus’ general assembly building, is home to several amenities for workers.
Included in the facility are medical and physical therapy clinics, a fitness center, a team wear store and the plant’s emergency response team.
The addition comes as the Korean automaker prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary in Alabama this May.
Hyundai contributes about $5 billion to the state’s economy and is the largest employer in the central Alabama region.
Plant President and CEO Chris Susock said the company is “incredibly proud” of the center.
“Our team members are the heart of this company, and this facility is an investment in keeping that heart healthy,” he said. “This new facility is more than just a place for enhanced medical services; it’s a resource for wellness, fitness, physical therapy, fire prevention, and emergency response. It’s why we are calling it our Care Center.”
In the center, employees can receive medical services, including exams, injury treatment and other health services. The physical therapy section works to speed recovery and rehab.
The fitness center features upgraded workout facilities for employees, while the team wear store has work apparel.
The emergency response facilities house the team tasked with responding to any medical emergencies on the plant campus.
Alabama auto plants have made several changes in the last year after the United Auto Workers began a serious push to unionize Southern auto plants. A year ago, UAW announced it had gotten 30% of the workforce at Hyundai to sign union cards.
