Two teens charged in shooting at Hoover Wendy’s that seriously wounded 18-year-old

Two teens have been charged in the December shooting in Hoover that left an 18-year-old critically injured.

Hoover police on Wednesday said Lanell Joseph Pratt Jr., 18, of Pleasant Grove, and a 17-year-old from Fairfield have been charged with attempted murder.

The 17-year-old’s name is not being released by police because of his age, but Lt. Daniel Lowe said he is charged as an adult.

Officers responded that Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, to Office Depot on a report of a person shot. They learned the shooting had taken place at the nearby Wendy’s.

The victim was taken to UAB Hospital but serious injuries but was able to recover, Lowe said.

The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office first issued a warrant for the 17-year-old suspect. He was taken into custody by Hoover detectives on Feb. 3.

Pratt was taken into custody Feb. 7 by the U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force on an unrelated robbery charge.

On Tuesday, Lowe said, the district attorney’s office issued the attempted murder warrant against Pratt.

Bond for both teens is set at $60,000

Lowe said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely.
