Popular awards show canceled ahead of 2025 awards season

The CMT Awards will not take place in 2025 as the merger between its parent company, Paramount Global, and Skydance Media continues.

The country music award show joins several others, including MTV EMAs, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Mexico and the MTV MIAWs, to get the axe as part of the deal, which is slated to be done within the year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The company said it plans to “reimagine” and “optimize” the shows in the future.

The CMT Awards is a fan-voted awards show that has been around for more than two decades and focuses on music videos for country music acts.

For the past two years, the CMT Music Awards took place in Austin, Texas. Prior to that move, they were held in Nashville, Tenn. In 2024, Jelly Roll took home the Video of the Year award for Need A Favor while Carrie Underwood has the most CMT Awards — 25 total — to her name, according to YardBarker.
