Could McDonald’s be bringing back this discontinued menu item?

Last year, McDonald’s announced the return of the Snack Wrap. Could other discontinued items return to the restaurant’s menu this year? Possibly.

The fast-food giant has big plans for incorporating more chicken items into its menu. Quartz reports McDonald’s is aiming to increase its market share in the chicken category by the end of 2026. In an earnings call this month, company CEO Chris Kempczinski teased new menu items, including chicken strips.

“We’ll continue to roll out the McCrispy, and there’s incredible energy around the return of Snack Wraps in the U.S., alongside new offerings like chicken strips and the limited-time Chicken Big Mac,” Kempczinski said.

The talk of chicken strips is good news for fans of Chicken Selects and the Buttermilk Crispy Tenders, McDonald’s two takes on chicken strips. The Chicken Selects debuted at McDonald’s in 2002, but the company removed them from the menu in 2013, reports The Daily Meal. Buttermilk Crispy Tenders debuted in 2017, but McDonald’s permanently removed the item from the menu in 2020.

The Chicken Big Mac and the return of the Snack Wrap

In 2024, McDonald’s introduced the Chicken Big Mac to restaurants across the United States. The sandwich was popular internationally, particularly in the U.K. and Australia.

In December, McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger confirmed that Snack Wraps– the simple wrap with lettuce, cheese, chicken, and signature sauce inside a flour tortilla– would return to the menu in 2025.
