Fender bender leads to chase and gunfire in Homewood
An investigation is underway after shots were fired following a fender bender and chase on Green Springs Highway.
Homewood police Sgt. Mark Trippe said the minor traffic accident happened shortly before 8 p.m. near Valley Avenue.
The two drivers got into a dispute and one of them drove off. The second driver followed.
“They chased each other down Green Springs,’’ Trippe said.
As the drivers got to the on-ramp to Interstate 65, multiple shots were fired from one vehicle at the other.
The vehicle that was struck by the bullets stopped. No one was injured.
The shooter, Trippe said, fled on I-65 northbound.
Detectives and crime scene investigators, with the help of a drone, were on the scene for a couple of hours.
No arrests have been made.
It was just over one week ago that a fender bender in Birmingham led to the shooting death of 55-year-old Birmingham man. A suspect is charged with capital murder in that case.
Anyone with information on Monday’s incident is asked to call Homewood police at 205-332-6200.
