Is spring here to stay? Alabama will likely have record high temperatures this weekend

Spring-like warmth is expected to continue across Alabama through Saturday.

It was warm enough to set a record high in at least one Alabama city on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville said Muscle Shoals had a high temperature of 76 degrees on Wednesday, which broke the old record high of 74 degrees in 2008.

Muscle Shoals also tied its record high on Monday.

More records could fall in the coming days, with Saturday looking like it could be the warmest.

Today there could continue to be chances for rain for north and north-central Alabama, according to the weather service. However, no severe weather is expected.

High temperatures today will range from the low to mid-70s in north Alabama to the mid- to upper 70s in central Alabama to the upper 70s in south Alabama (see today’s forecast at the top of this post).

Friday could be a few degrees cooler in north Alabama, which is only expected to get into the mid-to upper 60s.

Central Alabama will have highs in the mid- to upper 70s on Friday, and south Alabama is also expected to be in the upper 70s.

Saturday could be the warmest day of the week, and it could mark the first time some spots hit the 80-degree mark in 2025.

Saturday’s highs are expected to be in the upper 70s statewide, with a few spots in south Alabama reaching 80 degrees.

Temperatures will cool off in north Alabama on Sunday as a cold front works its way into the state. Highs on Sunday in north Alabama may only be in the 50s, while more 60s and 70s will be possible in the rest of the state.

However, warmer temperatures are expected to return next week and hang on for a while.

In fact, there’s no clear signal for a big cold blast in the next two weeks. NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is maintaining a decent probability of above-average temperatures for Alabama through next week.

This forecast is for Feb. 13-19 (next Thursday through the following Wednesday):
