2 ‘armed and dangerous’ suspects wanted in killing of innocent bystander outside Selma Walmart
A search is underway for two suspects sought in the fatal shooting of an innocent bystander outside a Walmart in Selma.
Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford on Monday said Tashun Roderick Benard Hunter, 19, and Willie James Hunter, 20, both of Selma, are charged with capital murder in the slaying of 40-year-old Marcus Martin.
Fulford said the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired at about 9 p.m. Friday.
Police found several vehicles had been struck and Martin unresponsive inside his vehicle.
Police said Martin, described as an innocent bystander, died as a result of his injuries.
Two other suspects – ages 16 and 17 – were taken into custody over the weekend. They are also charged with capital murder. .
Dallas County District Attorney Robert Turner, Jr. posted on Facebook that Selma police were working with state and federal agencies to investigate the incident. Turner urged the public to remain patient as the investigation continues.
“Acts of violence like this have no place in our society, and we will not rest until justice is achieved for the victims and their loved ones,” Turner wrote.
“We also call on the community to stand together in the face of this tragedy. Now is the time for unity, resilience, and collective action to create a safer environment for all. We encourage anyone with information related to this case to come forward and assist law enforcement in their efforts.”
Mayor James Perkins said authorities to working to arrest those responsible for the homicide.
“Though I am not in a position to speak on specifics about the investigation, I am confident that the management at Walmart are as prepared as ever to receive us as customers. Safety is all of our concern and is our priority. And through the joint efforts of our law enforcement agencies, justice will be served,” Perkins said.
“Finally, these are very difficult times for everyone. The anxiety level of people across this nation is higher than ever before. It is important that each of us decompress our feelings and better control our emotions. I continue in constant prayer for our nation, and I encourage all to do likewise.”
