146 players with Alabama football roots on the Pro Bowl’s all-time roster
Maxie Baughan, John Hannah, Walter Jones, Derrick Thomas and DeMarcus Ware were chosen for nine Pro Bowls apiece. They’re tied for the most selections for any NFL player from an Alabama high school or college.
Twelve players with Alabama football roots were picked for the Pro Bowl Games for the 2024 season, although two are not participating in this week’s activities.
Four of those players received their first Pro Bowl recognition, bringing to 146 the number of players from Alabama high schools and colleges who have been chosen for the Pro Bowl Games, Pro Bowl, AFL All-Star Game or Pro All-Star Game, which was played intermittently before the Pro Bowl started in 1951.
For the other eight selections with Alabama football roots, all have been picked at least three times, except for Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs, and he’s been chosen in each of his NFL seasons.
Is one (or more) of the current crop of all-stars on his way to catching the five nine-timers?
Even though Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry have five selections apiece, the players who have the early career pace and probable playing time ahead of them to make a good run at that group would seem to be Philadelphia Eagles guard Landon Dickerson and Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II.
The 2024 season was the fourth NFL campaign for both Dickerson and Surtain, and each made the Pro Bowl Games for the third consecutive year.
This season’s Pro Bowlers with Alabama football roots include:
- Detroit Lions strong safety Brian Branch (Alabama)
- Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins (Clay-Chalkville)
- Philadelphia Eagles guard Landon Dickerson (Alabama)
- Pittsburgh Steelers free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (Alabama)
- Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs (Alabama)
- Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry (Alabama)
- Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey (Hoover, Alabama)
- Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs (Alabama)
- Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy (Alabama)
- Green Bay Packers free safety Xavier McKinney (Alabama)
- Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II (Alabama)
- New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (Wenonah, Alabama)
Dickerson and Henry are not participating.
This year’s all-stars bring to 381 the number of times that a player from an Alabama high school or college has been chosen for the Pro Bowl Games, Pro Bowl, AFL All-Star Game or Pro All-Star Game
The Pro Bowl Games resume at 2 p.m. CST Sunday at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. ABC and ESPN will televise the event.
