Shooting outside Selma Walmart leaves 1 dead

One person is dead after a shooting outside a Walmart in Selma, according to the district attorney and news reports.

D.A. Robert Turner, Jr. posted on Facebook that Selma police were working with state and federal agencies to investigate the incident. Turner urged the public to remain patient as the investigation continues.

Efforts to reach Selma police on Saturday morning were not immediately successful.

“Acts of violence like this have no place in our society, and we will not rest until justice is achieved for the victims and their loved ones,” Turner wrote.

“We also call on the community to stand together in the face of this tragedy. Now is the time for unity, resilience, and collective action to create a safer environment for all. We encourage anyone with information related to this case to come forward and assist law enforcement in their efforts.”

The Walmart closed for the rest of the night after the shooting, city officials reported.

The shooting started after a fight inside the store ended with gunfire in the parking lot, striking and killing an innocent bystander who had just arrived at the store, WSFA reported.
