Shots fired in Shelby County standoff at home off US 280

A standoff with shots fired is underway in a Shelby County neighborhood.

Shelby County sheriff’s deputies were attempting to serve an order on a man at a home in the 200 block of Narrows Drive in the Narrows community off U.S. 280.

Deputies went to the home about 8 a.m.

Deputy Chief Clay Hammac said shots were exchanged. No deputies were injured. It’s unclear if anyone in the house was wounded.

As of 11:30 a.m., Hammac said, two people remained inside the home, both there willingly. One is the subject of the initial undisclosed order, who is in his early 70s. The other is his son, who is 48.

Hammac said the son is not a hostage, but has chosen to remain barricaded with his father.

Authorities are asking Narrows residents to shelter in place. Shelby County EMA has notified hundreds of area residents to remain in their homes or avoid the area.

“Our highest priority is preservation of life,’’ Hammac said.

Deputies have fired multiple gas cannisters into the home – first just after 10:30 a.m. and again at about 11:30 a.m. hoping to draw the two men from the home but to no avail.

Multiple agencies have responded to the scene.
