Alabama has an 11th alumnus selected for this week’s Pro Bowl Games

New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is going to the Pro Bowl Games for the third season in a row after being added to the AFC roster on Monday.

The interior defensive linemen for the AFC in the original Pro Bowl selections were Cameron Heyward of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs and Nnamdi Madubuike of the Baltimore Ravens.

Jones will not play at the Pro Bowl Games after the Chiefs qualified for Super Bowl LIX by beating the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday.

Williams was the first alternate at the position, and the former Alabama All-American has replaced Jones on the AFC roster. The Pro Bowl players were picked by the vote of fans, coaches and players, with each group’s choices counting one-third toward the choices.

The original selections for the Pro Bowl Games featured 11 players with Alabama football roots, including 10 Crimson Tide alumni:

  • Detroit Lions strong safety Brian Branch (Alabama)
  • Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins (Clay-Chalkville)
  • Philadelphia Eagles guard Landon Dickerson (Alabama)
  • Pittsburgh Steelers free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (Alabama)
  • Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs (Alabama)
  • Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry (Alabama)
  • Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey (Hoover, Alabama)
  • Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs (Alabama)
  • Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy (Alabama)
  • Green Bay Packers free safety Xavier McKinney (Alabama)
  • Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II (Alabama)

Because Dickerson will play in Super Bowl LIX after the Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders 55-23 on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game, he has been replaced on the NFC roster by Carolina Panthers guard Robert Hunt.

The 7-on-7 flag football game featuring the Pro Bowl players will be held on Sunday at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, as the culmination of a multi-day AFC vs. NFC competition in which all-stars will demonstrate their football and non-football skills in a variety of competitions.
