The Alabama High School Athletic Association has postponed this week’s Regional Bowling Championships, the AHSAA Wrestling Duals Tournament semifinals and Wednesday’s scheduled Winter Central Board of Control meeting due to expected winter weather. The AHSAA office will also be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

AHSAA Executive Director Heath Harmon made the announcement Monday after consulting with the Central Board of Control and the National Weather Service.

“Gov. Kay Ivey issued a State of Emergency and closed state offices and buildings in Montgomery and several other counties for Tuesday and Wednesday,” said Harmon. “The AHSAA will follow that order. We will close our office for Tuesday and Wednesday with our executive staff working from home.”

The new schedule moves the Central Board’s Winter meeting to Wednesday, Jan. 29, 10 a.m. It will be held at the AHSAA Office at Montgomery beginning at 10 a.m.

The AHSAA Wrestling Duals semifinals and finals are being moved to Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex’s Bill Harris Arena. The Duals tourney semifinals and finals were originally scheduled for Friday at the Bill Harris Arena.

All matches are set to follow the same time schedule as originally planned with Class 7A and Class 5A semifinals beginning at 9 a.m., with the championship and consolation matches scheduled for 10:45 a.m.  The Class 6A and 1A/4A semifinals will begin at 1:45 p.m., with the championship matches and consolation matches at 3:30 p.m.

The AHSAA South and North Regional Bowling Championships, scheduled for Vestavia Bowl in Vestavia Hills and Spare Time Bowling Center in Trussville, were originally scheduled for Jan. 23-24. Due to the weather conditions, the South Region championships will be moved to Jan. 27-28, at the same location. The North Region tournament is being rescheduled for Jan. 29-30, at the same location. The time schedules will remain the same.

The AHSAA State Bowling Championships, which were scheduled for the Bowlero Bowling Center at Mobile, Jan. 30-31, are also being rescheduled for the following week. It will be held Feb. 3-4, at the Bowlero Bowling Center. All times will remain the same.
