Auburn basketball’s Tahaad Pettiford named SEC freshman of the week

After a career day in Athens, Auburn basketball’s Tahaad Pettiford was named the SEC freshman of the week Monday afternoon.

Pettiford averaged 18 points and three steals in Auburn’s ranked wins over Mississippi State and Georgia. He also shot 53.8% from 3-point range.

The Tigers guard has scored in double figures in all five conference games this season. He scored a game-high 24 points at Georgia and finished with 12 points against Mississippi State.

“I would say, from a shooting standpoint, he’s been the most impactful freshman that I think I’ve ever had at the point guard position,” Bruce Pearl said postgame after defeating Georgia. “Sharife Cooper was as courageous and was as gifted a playmaker, and penetrator and floor general. But he couldn’t shoot like Tahaad, obviously.”

Auburn will return back to Neville arena to host No.6 Tennessee Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ESPN’s College GameDay will also be live from Neville Arena Saturday morning, running from 10-11 a.m.
