South Alabama adds former SEC offensive lineman through transfer portal

South Alabama has added former Arkansas offensive lineman Amaury Wiggins for 2025 through the transfer portal, head coach Major Applewhite confirmed to AL.com.

Wiggins (6-foot-3, 310 pounds) is a native of Pensacola, Fla., who saw action in five games at center for the Razorbacks the last two seasons. He previously played at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College — where he was an all-conference pick in 2022 — and has one year of eligibility remaining.

Wiggins is the 12th portal transfer for South Alabama in the current cycle, and third offensive lineman. The Jaguars have also added senior Ni Mansell (South Carolina) and sophomore Leavy Johnson (Western Kentucky) since the end of the 2024 season.

The 12 portal additions join a number of spring-semester newcomers for South Alabama, where classes started on Monday. Three junior-college transfers — running back Keenan Phillips (Georgia Military), tight end Brec Long (Coffeyville) and defensive tackle Dominic Wiseman (Iowa Western). Like the portal transfer, the junior-college imports are enrolled in classes and set to participate in the offseason program and spring practice.

One player who won’t be back for the Jaguars is running back Jarvis Durr, who played in two games the last two seasons in a reserve role. Durr — who missed most of 2024 due to injury — has transferred to Northwest Mississippi Community College.

Durr’s departure — and Phillips’ arrival — leaves South Alabama will just four scholarship running backs for the spring. Seniors Kentrel Bullock and Iverson Celestine are back, as is sophomore P.J. Martin, with Durr, Fluff Bothwell (Mississippi State) and Braylon McReynolds (Louisiana-Monroe) have departed.

South Alabama is expected to begin spring practice on or around March 14.
