Mega-popular burger chain plans to open 1,200 new locations
An upscale burger chain with a cult following has announced plans for a massive expansion.
Shake Shack said it would like to increase its number of restaurants to “at least 1,500″ over time. The company currently operates 329 locations, including one at The Summit in Birmingham.
“We are proud to announce that we ended FY2024 with 329 Company-operated Shacks with a marked improvement in our profitability and returns. However, we believe that we are just getting started, and see an ample runway for growth ahead,” CEO Rob Lynch said in a statement.
The projected number of stores is more than double the 450 unit total the New York-based chain predicted in its 2015 initial public offering.
Locations for the new restaurants have not been announced but the chain told Fox Business it was “looking at 20 priority markets and growing more in its existing regions.” It plans to open about 45 company-operated locations and as many as 40 licensed ones in 2025.
Shake Shack reported an estimated revenue of $1.3 billion in 2024.
