It’s been five days since a 34-year-old man disappeared while fishing in Jefferson County, and authorities are asking for information from anyone who may have seen him that day.

Richard Douglas Fields has not been seen or heard from since about 4 p.m. Saturday when he told his family he was going kayak fishing at Bayview Lake.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was notified early Monday afternoon and immediately launched an intensive search which has deployed sonar, drones, a helicopter and dive teams, said Lt. Joni Money.

His kayak was quickly recovered.

The search was temporarily suspended Thursday because of the weather but is expected to resume Friday.

Fields was last seen wearing a long sleeve blue shirt. He is described as 5-feet, 6-inches tall and weighing 170 pounds.

Money said investigators are asking that anyone who spoke with Fields on Saturday or saw him fishing call investigators at 205-325-1450.
