What would Alabama like to see return in 2025?
What do BayFest, Nick Saban, and Sister Schubert’s sausage rolls have in common?
Alabama residents want them back in 2025.
In the r/Alabama subreddit, one user prompted commentors to share “Things in this state you’d like to see brought back.”
The post has received dozens of comments so far, with bygone music festivals being the most popular answer overall.
Mobile’s BayFest, a three-day music festival that abruptly closed in 2015, and Birmingham’s City Stages, a music festival that went bankrupt in 2009, were the two most mentioned events.
“BayFest was great and reasonably priced,” one commentor wrote.
Both were hosts to several legendary performers in their time, including James Brown, Al Green, Reba McEntire, and T-Pain.
One commentor echoed a sentiment expressed by several college football fans this season, and said their wish was for former University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban to return to his previous post.
Others shared memories of their favorite closed restaurants, like Manchas in Birmingham’s Southside.
“I miss agent Orange sauce and the Killer Whale Burrito,” one person wrote.
Another gave a shout out to the closed China Star in Dothan.
And some took aim at state leadership, saying they would like to see women’s healthcare services, Planned Parenthoods, and care facilities for the elderly brought back.
A couple of commentors took issue with only one specific move from legislators- a state law that went into effect this year requiring adult sites to verify its users’ ages.
This law led to PornHub blocking access for users in Alabama.
“Give me naked people or give me death,” one person wrote.
