UAB outlasts FAU to pick up critical conference road win

The UAB Blazers notched their third straight win, this time taking down Florida Atlantic 81-76 in front of a rowdy Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena crowd in Boca Raton, FL.

The Blazers record improved to 10-7 on the season, and 3-1 in American Conference play.

UAB was once again led in scoring by forward Yaxel Lendeborg, who held game high marks with his 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. On defense, Lendeborg also contributed two blocks and a steal.

Lendeborg’s elevated play as of late has been a symptom of this UAB offense finally finding its groove, as they hit 45 percent of their field goals and shot five-of-thirteen from three-point range.

Four other Blazers scored in double-digits, with Christian Coleman with 15 and Alejandro Vasquez’s 14 points coming in bounce-back games for the seniors after rough outings against Tulane.

The starting backcourt pair Ja’Borri McGhee and Tony Toney also added 12 and 11 points respectively, as Toney continues to surprise as one of the best three-point shooters on the team, hitting three of his six attempts from deep tonight.

Tre Carroll led FAU with 20 points, going back-and-forth with UAB’s Lendeborg in what was an extremely entertaining frontcourt battle on both ends of the floor.

The Blazers will stay in Florida for their next contest on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. against the South Florida Bulls on ESPN+.
