South Alabama adds former Arkansas State tight end through transfer portal

South Alabama on Sunday picked up a transfer portal commitment from Miller McCrumby, a former Arkansas State tight end.

McCrumby (6-foot-4, 238 pounds) caught 26 passes for 217 yards in 27 games the last three seasons at Arkansas State. A native of Mount Pleasant, Texas, he has one year of eligibility remaining.

McCrumby — a 3-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class — is South Alabama’s sixth portal transfer in the current cycle, joining wide receiver Brendan Jenkins (Samford), offensive lineman Ni Mansell (South Carolina), defensive end Tirrell Johnson (Harding), linebacker Tre’Mon Henry (Southern Miss) and defensive back Dallas Young (Arkansas). The Jaguars are expected to add a few more portal transfers before spring semester classes begin on Monday.

South Alabama has a need at tight end following the graduation of three-year starter DJ Thomas-Jones and backups Andrew Bench and Todd Justice following the 2024 season. The Jaguars are expected to return redshirt sophomore Trent Thomas, junior Rod Gibbs and redshirt freshman Will Loerzel next season and also signed junior-college All-American Brec Long in December, but often use more than one tight end on the field at a time.

South Alabama went 7-6 in 2024, beating Eastern Michigan 30-23 in the Salute to Veterans Bowl.
