Former Hueytown star becomes Michael Vick’s first quarterback commit at Norfolk State
One of the most accomplished dual-threat quarterbacks in recent Alabama high school football history is set to play for Michael Vick.
Former Hueytown standout and Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year Earl Woods III has committed to play at FCS Norfolk State for Michael Vick, his agent Hutton Reed confirmed to AL.com.
Vick was announced as the next head coach of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference program on Dec. 20.
“A blessing honestly, someone that I looked up to and model my game after growing up,” Woods told AL.com of his commitment to play for Vick. “For him to take a chance and give me an opportunity is amazing.”
Woods, who played last season at Kennesaw State, started his collegiate career at Jacksonville State in 2023, where he played in three games as a true freshman.
In three games with the Gamecocks, he ran the ball four times for 24 yards.
As a senior at Hueytown High, he threw for 1,825 yards and 24 touchdowns and completed 56.1% of his passes, and he ran for 1,527 yards and 22 touchdowns.
He threw for 3,069 yards and 32 touchdowns while running for 2,136 yards and 37 touchdowns as a junior, earning Gatorade Alabama Football Player of the Year honors.
Along with earning Gatorade Player of the Year honors for the state of Alabama, he was a two-time all-state selection, earned 2021 Class 6A Back of the Year honors.
He was selected to participate in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game as a senior, where he helped lead Alabama to a 14-10 win after running for 72 yards and a touchdown, throwing for 60 yards and catching two passes for 25 yards.
“I think the world of Michael Vick,” Reed told AL.com. “I love what he’s doing and what he wants to do, he’s been unbelievable through this process & we are very excited for Earl to learn under him.”
