A pair of new teams move to No. 1 in final ASWA high school basketball rankings

The final ASWA high school basketball rankings feature two new boys teams at No. 1.

Cottage Hill is the new boys Class 3A No. 1 team after former top-ranked Plainview lost on Tuesday and Class 2A North Sand Mountain moved to No. 1 after Holly Pond also suffered a loss.

Other boys No. 1 teams are Class 7A Vestavia Hills, Class 6A Pinson Valley, Class 5A Ramsay, Class 4A Westminster Christian, Class 1A Covenant Christian and AISA Lee-Scott.

The top-ranked team in girls rankings remained the same. Class 7A Hoover, Class 6A Hazel Green, Class 5A Guntersville, Class 4A Good Hope, Class 3A Trinity, Class 2A Cold Springs, Class 1A Spring Garden and AISA Edgewood Academy held fast at No. 1.

Three top-ranked teams are still undefeated, although the longest winning streak in AHSAA history was halted on Tuesday when Class 7A top-ranked Hoover downed Class 6A top-ranked Hazel Green to end the Trojans 87 game winning streak.

Class 1A Spring Garden (28-0) and AISA Edgewood Academy (24-0) are unblemished in girls rankings while Class 6A Pinson Valley (24-0) is the only boys No. 1 team undefeated.

Pinson Valley is ranked No. 34 nationally by MaxPreps while Hazel Green is ranked No. 13 and Hoover is at No. 19 in MaxPreps girls national rankings.
