Finebaum: Kalen DeBoer on ‘scorching hot seat,’ as Tide performance ‘horrifying’

Paul Finebaum contends Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer is now on a “scorching hot seat” and the target is only going to get bigger.

The Crimson Tide finished 9-4, missing the College Football Playoff.

“I believe very firmly Kalen DeBoer in on a scorching hot seat,” Finebaum said during his weekly appearance on the Matt Barrie Show. “Now, you can say, ‘What does that mean?’ I’ll tell you what I think it means. It means he is under a microscope. It was playoff or bust this year, and he went bust.

“The only way to scrap that all away was to win a bowl game against a lousy team, which Michigan was all but one game this season, and he couldn’t do it.”

Michigan’s defense sacked Jalen Milroe five times and forced three turnovers by the Alabama quarterback in the Wolverines’ 19-13 win in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

“The way they lost was horrifying to watch,” Finebaum said. “The good will went out so quickly for him this year.”

The SEC Network analyst said fans are “up in arms,” and the coach is very unpopular right now.

“Kalen DeBoer needs to be very careful,” Finebaum added. “If he doesn’t make the playoffs next year, the target on his back will be immense.”
