South Alabama adds former Southern Miss linebacker through transfer portal

South Alabama on Saturday added a transfer portal commitment from former Southern Miss linebacker Tre’Mon Henry.

The 6-foot-2, 245-pound Henry totaled nine tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in 11 games for the Golden Eagles in 2024 after redshirting as a true freshman. A 3-star prospect in the 2023 signing class, he has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Henry — who played his junior high school season in Alabama at Eufaula before transferring back to Carver High School in his hometown of Columbus, Ga. — is South Alabama’s third portal commitment in the current cycle, joining defensive end Tirrell Johnson (Harding) and wide receiver Brendan Jenkins (Samford). The Jaguars are expected to had several more transfers to the roster before spring semester classes begin on Jan. 13.

South Alabama finished 7-6 under first-year head coach Major Applewhite in 2024, beating Western Michigan 30-23 in the Salute to Veterans Bowl.
