Tuscaloosa woman shot dead in front of her children on New Year’s Eve; boyfriend charged

A Tuscaloosa woman shot to death New Year’s Eve was killed in front of her children, according to authorities.

Brittany Bolden, 34, died Tuesday night in the 3400 block of Joyce Lewis Lane.

Her boyfriend, 34-year-old Lovelle Rodgers, is charged with capital murder.

Tuscaloosa police were dispatched to the location about 8:30 p.m., where they found Bolden dead.

Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Marty Sellers said Wednesday the initial information was that Bolden’s injury might have been self-inflicted.

The investigation, however, showed otherwise.

After reviewing the evidence and speaking with witnesses, Rodgers was charged with capital murder.

Sellers said the couple had domestic violence issues in the past. The charge is a capital offense because the couple’s children were present at the time of the killing.

Rodgers is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond.
