An Alexander City man was killed in a weekend crash in Tallapoosa County.

Alabama State Troopers identified the victim as Derek J. McVey. He was 36.

The wreck happened at 8:44 p.m. Sunday on Campground Road near Kodiak Lane, about four miles northeast of Alex City.

ALEA Lt. Jeremy Burkett said McVey was driving a Kia Sorento that left the road and hit a fence, a mailbox and several trees before overturning.

McVey was not using a seat belt and was thrown from the Kia, Burkett said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by troopers.
