Country singer performs ‘Banned From The Grand Ole Opry’ after ruining Dolly Parton tribute
Elle King is addressing her controversial 2024 moment with a new song called “Banned From the Grand Ole Opry.”
The country singer performed for fans in a social media video late last week.
King admitted in January she was “hammered” during her cover of “Marry Me” at the “Opry Goes Dolly” show in honor of Dolly Parton’s birthday.
“I ain’t proud, no sir, no way / Wonder what Hank and Merle would say / Least I’m in good company / Since I got banned from the Grand Ole Opry,” she sings.
King expressed her “love” for the venue and Parton, stating she has no problem with the Opry for any consequences she faced. Her status with the Opry doesn’t appear to be clear.
In January, complaints from the audience included how King “ruined the night with her horrible, drunk, and profane performance.”
In a clip posted to TikTok, King tells the crowd: “Don’t tell Dolly, holy (s-word). I swear if any of you guys tell Dolly. … I’m not even gonna (f-word) lie. Y’all bought tickets for this (s-word)? You ain’t getting your money back.”
She also said, “I’ll tell you one thing more. Hi, my name is Elle King. I’m (f-word) hammered.”
Parton said in an interview with “Extra:” “Elle is really a great artist. She’s a great girl, and she’s been going through a lot of hard things lately. And she just had a little too much to drink. So, let’s just forgive that and forget it and move on because she felt worse than anybody ever could.”
