Veteran Jacksonville State running back enters transfer portal

Jacksonville State running back Anwar Lewis has entered the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on Saturday.

Lewis was one of the seniors across the country who was granted an extra year of eligibility after the NCAA’s blanket waiver granting for current NCAA Division I senior athletes who previously spent one season in junior college or at an NAIA school.

He transferred to Jax State from Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas, ahead of the 2022 season and will have one season of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer.

The running back played in seven games this season, running for 127 yards and two touchdowns while catching two passes for 49 yards in a crowded running back room led by first-team All-Conference USA back Tre Stewart.

His most productive season for Jax State was in 2022, when he ran for 818 yards and eight touchdowns and caught 13 passes for 127 yards and a score as Jax State’s lead back.

He led the Gamecocks in all-purpose yards and ranked third in scoring as Jax State finished atop the ASUN Conference in its final season at the FCS level.

Lewis played in 27 games at Jax State and totaled 1,669 yards and 14 touchdowns.
