Man shot while tending to dogs outside Hueytown home

A man was injured in a shooting Saturday morning while tending to his dogs outside his Hueytown home.

The shooting happened just after 8 a.m. in the 2400 block of Cherry Avenue.

Police said while the man was checking on the dogs, the unknown suspect approached him and opened fire. The man was able to get back inside the house where others called 911.

Hueytown Fire and Rescue took the victim to UAB Hospital. His condition was not immediately available.

Investigators said they believe the shooting was targeted, but a motive has not been disclosed.
