27-year-old ID’d as man found fatally shot on Polly Reed Road in Jefferson County

Authorities have released the name of a man shot to death earlier this week in eastern Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the victim as Joshua James Allums. He was 27 and lived in Fairfield.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 11:50 p.m. Monday to a report of a person down in the 200 block of Polly Reed Road, said sheriff’s spokesman Henry Irby.

They arrived to find Allums wounded by gunfire. Center Point Fire and Rescue rushed him to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:31 a.m. Tuesday.

No arrests have been announced.

Allums was one of three men killed during a 48-hour period over the Christmas holiday.
