Arizona Cardinals’ Jonah Williams on injured reserve to stay this time

Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle Jonah Williams has gone to injured reserve, and this time the former Alabama All-American is not coming back in the 2024 NFL season.

Williams sustained a knee injury in the Cardinals’ 36-30 overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday in his fifth game back from his first stint on injured reserve this season.

Williams sustained a knee injury in Arizona’s season-opening 34-28 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 8 and spent nine games on injured reserve.

Williams returned to the lineup on Nov. 24, and he had played all the Cardinals’ offensive snaps at right tackle until he got hurt on Arizona’s 40th offensive snap against Carolina.

During his five games back, Williams scored his first NFL touchdown when he recovered a fumble in the end zone during a 30-17 victory over the New England Patriots on Dec. 15.

The Cardinals also placed their starting left tackle on injured reserve this week. Paris Johnson missed Sunday’s game with a knee injury, and he’ll join Williams in watching the Cardinals’ final two games of the season.

The loss to Carolina eliminated Arizona from playoff contention. The Cardinals will close the season with NFC West games against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday and the San Francisco 49ers on Jan. 5.

The Cardinals signed Williams to a two-year, $30 million contract as an NFL free agent in March after he’d played every offensive snap of the 2023 season at right tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Williams joined the Cincinnati Bengals as the 11th selection in the 2019 NFL Draft. Williams started all 59 regular-season and five postseason games that he played with the Bengals. He was Cincinnati’s left tackle before switching to the right side in 2023.
