Driver charged with reckless manslaughter in crash that killed man, injured woman in Baldwin County
A Robertsdale man is facing reckless murder and other charges stemming from a crash that killed a man and injured a woman Sunday night in Baldwin County, authorities said.
Corey S. Mueller, 34, of Robertsdale, initially fled the scene of the wreck on Alabama State Route 59 before being found by state troopers and Baldwin County sheriff’s deputies, according to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Senior Trooper Joshua Thompson.
Eddie J. Walker, Jr., 52, of Loxley, was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from a 2008 Nissan Altima allegedly struck by Mueller’s 2017 Kia Sorrento, Thompson said.
Walker was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck about four miles south of Robertsdale.
After the initial impact, the Nissan overturned.
The driver of the Nissan, a 44-year-old Loxley woman, was taken to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Florida, with undisclosed injuries.
Muller was arrested and charged with reckless manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, Thompson said.
Mueller was booked into the Baldwin County jail on $75,000 bond.
Further information was unavailable as state troopers continue to investigate the wreck.
