Morgan County deputies shoot at driver who fired at law enforcement after chase, officials say
Morgan County deputies shot at someone who fired at them after a Monday afternoon chase, according to the sheriff’s office.
Coroner Jeff Chunn is on the scene but would not immediately comment.
The incident came after a traffic stop initiated by the Priceville Police Department, according to the sheriff’s office.
“The vehicle fled and led multiple agencies on chase along Hwy 67, I-65 and I-565 before returning to Morgan County,” a sheriff’s office statement read. “During the pursuit, the subject waved a firearm numerous times.”
The vehicle “made contact” with a sheriff’s office patrol unit before stopping on Thompson Road at Bryd Road.
“The subject shot at deputies, who returned fire,” the statement read.
The sheriff’s office currently has Thompson Road currently blocked. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more is known.
