Darius Slayton earns Community MVP Award for support of junior Giants

The NFL Players Association has chosen New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton as its NFLPA Community MVP for Week 16 of the NFL season.

In the former Auburn standout’s latest act of charity, Slayton contributed $50,000 to provide gifts and household needs for 24 families through his Left-Hand Right-Hand Foundation.

“It is a big honor to be named the Week 16 NFLPA Community MVP,” Slayton said in a statement released by the NFLPA. “This means a lot to me because I try to help out any way, shape or form that I can.”

Slayton’s foundation hosted its third annual holiday gift giveaway for families from the New York Police Department-led Far Rockaway, Harlem and Bronx Giants football programs on Dec. 9. Slayton and his parents, Pamela and Eddie, worked with the NYPD officers to identify eight families in each of the three boroughs.

The Far Rockaway, Harlem and Bronx Giants programs aim to improve police-community relations through mentorship, tutoring and the opportunity to play flag football and other sports for 150 boys across 20 schools. Since the program’s inception, no boy has had to repeat a grade or go to summer school.

“Giving back is something I was raised to do by my parents and something I have been able to do ever since I’ve been in the league,” said Slayton, who has provided more than $150,000 in support for the programs. “My family and I are always looking to reach back and help the communities we are a part of, and I am blessed to receive an award like this. I am looking forward to continuing my community work for the rest of my career and beyond.”

A fifth-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, Slayton has led the Giants in receiving yards in four of his five previous seasons. This year, he is the team’s nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.

Slayton and the other 2024 Community MVP winners are eligible for the Alan Page Community Award. The NFLPA’s highest annual player honor includes an additional $100,000 donation.

Slayton and the Giants play the Atlanta Falcons at noon CST Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
