Witnesses to the scene of multiple wrecks took the laws into their own hands Thursday night when the occupant of a vehicle tried to flee the scene in north Alabama, authorities said.

Quick-thinking good Samaritans stopped the vehicle in Lacey’s Spring following multiple wrecks on Memorial Parkway, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

One of the occupants of the vehicle tried to fight one of the bystanders when they hogtied the suspect and held them at gunpoint, the sheriff’s office said.

Another occupant of the vehicle fled into the woods.

Morgan County sheriff’s deputies and Huntsville police responded to the scene.
