Bruce Pearl gives injury update on Johni Broome
Auburn’s men’s basketball leading scorer Johni Broome will not need surgery after sustaining a shoulder injury in Tuesday’s 100-59 victory over Georgia State.
The university announced Wednesday afternoon that Broome’s MRI showed he will not have to miss any extended time and can begin the rehabilitation process.
Chaney Johnson had an Auburn career high 26 points against the panthers replacing Broome when he left the game. He would share the frontcourt with Dylan Cardwell if he were to enter the starting lineup.
“We always have the next man up mentality. With Johni going down,” Johnson said postgame. “I knew I would have to have a little more workload. Coach was getting me the ball in the right spots. My teammates were getting me the ball in the right spots.”
No. 2 Auburn will meet No. 16 Purdue at Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN.
