Birmingham teens charged in Homewood robbery, shooting that seriously wounded 2 women

Two teens have been charged in a November shooting that seriously injured two women in Homewood.

Jacob Ja’mar Cottrell, 19, and Augustus Emanuel Bozman Jr., 18, were taken into custody earlier today by Homewood police and the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Cottrell is charged charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count each of shooting into an occupied vehicle and first-degree robbery.

Bozman is charged with first-degree robbery.

Both are from Birmingham and will be held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail, said Homewood police Sgt. Mark Trippe.

The shooting happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in the 900 block of Valley ridge Drive. That location is the parking lot at the Valora at Homewood apartments.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found both women wounded inside a vehicle.

The investigation indicated the women were sitting inside the vehicle when the suspects approached them and opened fire.

Both victims were taken to UAB Hospital with serious injuries. At least one of the victims remains hospitalized, Trippe said.
