Head injury sidelines Grant DuBose for the rest of the Dolphins’ season
The Miami Dolphins placed wide receiver Grant DuBose on injured reserve on Tuesday without updating the former Park Crossing High School standout’s condition.
DuBose left the field on a stretcher during the third quarter of the Dolphins’ NFL game against the Houston Texans on Sunday and was taken to a nearby hospital with a head injury. He did not return to Miami with his teammates after the game.
On Monday, the Dolphins announced DuBose “has movement in all extremities and initial tests have revealed positive results. He remains under the care of doctors for continued observation.”
Miami coach Mike McDaniel said during his Monday press conference that was the kind of news the Dolphins wanted to hear.
“I think every step you’re hopeful to be encouraged,” McDaniel said, “so it was good to be able to express that to his teammates. … We’ll be excited to see him when doctors deem it appropriate for him to fly.”
Because NFL rules require a player on injured reserve to miss at least four games, DuBose’s second NFL season is over because the Dolphins have only three games remaining on their regular-season schedule.
DuBose played in three games in 2024 after joining Miami as a waiver claim between the end of the preseason and the beginning of the regular season.
DuBose was awarded to the Dolphins after being waived by the Green Bay Packers, who chose DuBose in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft and kept him on their practice squad for the entire 2023 season.
DuBose sustained a shoulder injury in the second game of the season and spent the next 11 games on injured reserve. Sunday’s game was his first since Sept. 12.
DuBose was trying to catch a pass across the middle when he was hit by Texans safety Caden Bullock, who was penalized for unnecessary roughness on the play. DuBose lay motionless on the turf at NRG Stadium in Houston as medical personnel worked on him for more than 10 minutes after he went down.
DuBose finally was slipped onto a backboard and wheeled off the field to be taken to Hermann Memorial-Texas Medical Center.

DuBose played 50 offensive snaps for Miami in 2024, when he had two receptions for 11 yards.
After playing high school football in Montgomery, DuBose played for Miles’ SIAC championship and NCAA Division II playoff team in 2019. But when the Golden Bears canceled their 2020 schedule because of the coronavirus pandemic, DuBose was left bagging groceries, delivering food orders and working at Walmart and Hyundai Glovis.
When DuBose returned to college football with Charlotte, he caught 126 passes for 1,684 yards and 15 touchdowns in two seasons with the 49ers.
